India: Professional runners take part in Delhi half-marathon despite COVID and air pollution

Professional runners took part in this year’s edition of the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon, in New Delhi, Sunday. Dozens participated despite the COVID-19 spread and the reported poor air quality which was times higher than the norm. Spectators could be seen cheering for the sportsmen, some wearing face masks. Marathon world record holders Brigid Kosgei and Ababel Yeshaneh, also took part in the race. «A player always keeps himself fit and trains hard and when competition like this comes, they should participate,» said Bhupath, one of the participants. Ethiopia’s Amdework Walelegn won the men’s race completing the marathon in 58.53 while Yalemzerf Yehualaw, also from Ethiopia, won the race in 1.04.46.
