Argentina's first transgender pro tennis player shoots for the stars with her supreme serves

Mia Fedra, Argentina’s first professional transgender tennis player, showed off her serving skills and shared her story in Buenos Aires on Friday. Fedra is currently holding the number 3 spot in Argentina’s ranking. Fedra explaned how she started playing on the men’s circuit at age nine, but left tennis when her transition began. The talented tennist then returned to compete when Argentina’s 2012 Gender Identity Law gave her her female ID. On playing professional tennis as a transgender woman, Fedra said she felt that «doors are opening little by little, people’s heads are changing.» «I tried to make this sport a bit more inclusive with regards to this subject. I think it was a great contribution on my part,» Fedra continued. «Now I realise that I opened a great door.» Fedra recounted how she grew up watching Gabriela Sabatini play on television, and shared her dream to «continue playing and competing, because I was born to compete.»
